Beginner’s Luck

My Singaporean mate once told me that the best way to win money on the casino table is to identify the ‘sucker’ and bet against him all night long. If you can’t find the sucker, however, then obviously you are the sucker.

Another great way of gambling is to follow a beginner and ride on his/her beginner’s luck. I wouldn’t in a million years thought that a ‘beginner’ friend can successfully predict two consecutive key matches in Euro-cup to the exact score; whilst my mum who has as much knowledge in football as myself in tailoring, predicted Spain way before the tournament commences. Simply amazing.

Having said all that, if you have never gamble in your entire life, then I will be your best friend in the coming World Cup 2010.

Book Sharing

I always love the idea of attending a book-sharing seminar. An author spent years of effort compiling his ideas and experiences, an editor spent months publishing it to a book, the speaker spent days reading and summarizing the book; and I spent a mere 2 hours listening to all the key points. Simply brilliant.

The last seminar I attended is on the bibliography of a speculator. My favorite quote from the book- the correlation between an economy and the stock market is like a man taking a dog for a walk. Man (and economy) generally walks in a straight line from destiny A to B whilst the dog (and stock market) runs zigzag without any logic.

If you don’t get what I mean, please come and take ZaoZao for a walk. He needs to express his zigzag skills. :)

Lunch

It is common for working class people to utilize lunchtime as the best mode of socialization among colleagues. I prefer exploit lunchtime as the time to be by myself, whether it is working out in the gym or walking on the street heading towards no-man’s land. Nowadays I am starting to dislike lunchtime as there are no food selections with the exception of Cold Storage Bread, Cold Storage Pie or Cold Storage Japanese Food. There are neither delicious nor cheap, yet I am their most loyal customer in the past three months.

If you need a lunch buddy, please feel free to visit me or bring me cookies during lunchtime, however, try not to talk too much; I prefer to be quiet and alone. :)

Gratitude

Troubled by injuries and extensive workload in recent weeks, I was fortunate to receive many supports from some really cool friends. I therefore wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the following people for their assistance in various areas:

- The self proclaimed “IT genius” who assist me in upgrading the blog’s template. Its lovely.
- My “so-called” Bahasa Malay Student who aids me in translating some letters (but please continue to address me as Professor Koo).
- The genuine report-writing professional who drafted an excellent business letter for me. Please accept this special virtual lucky vegi as your reward.Lucky Vegi
- The Sports Analyst Expert that bet on the losing team in NBA Finals (again). Thank you for the upcoming RM 75 delicious dinner.
- The one who stays in Traffic Jam Free environment yet willing to entertain me when I am stuck in traffic jam.
- The Poppy Talk Owner who finally admit her mistake that it is a ‘muffin’ instead of ‘cup-cake’ (future- coming soon).
- And last but not least, our dearest ‘professional’ and ‘beautiful’ organizer who will organize the Chong Hwa 20-years reunion soon (although she has not agreed, but we thank her in advance).

Thanks a lot mates. You are my heroes. :)

Reunion

I reunite with more childhood friends this year than I did in the last decade. They include long lost friends whom I have failed to locate for as much as 17 years, situated in various countries in the world. The feeling is like; it was just yesterday when we say good-bye.

Someone once said that childhood friends are your best friends as they remembered you as what once were. They have little idea of what you are currently doing but that’s the whole point. Being with them grants you the feeling of forgetting who you are now and what you are doing, but instead relive the experiences that once amazed you.

I shall be back to Perth next month to reunite with several high school mates. I shall assist them to relive their experiences of “being taken to school by me in Basketball”. :)

P.S. I wish my good friend Brent would organize a 20-years Chong Hwa High School Reunion. Brent if you can read this, please and thank you.

Injuries

When a professional athletic hurt himself in a tournament, he would most certainly receive plenty of sympathy and get paid handsomely during his rehabitation. When an ordinary person sprains his ankle whilst walking on the street (by stepping onto an uneven road), however, probably receives more hilarious comments than attention. It is thus wiser to stick to the “injured in sports” story. Nonetheless, if you feel pity for this ordinary bloke, I heard he needs some assistance in cleaning up his house and driving him around. Please do not hesitate to contact him for volunteer work. :)

Secrets

On the contrary to previous post, some secrets were better remain untold. Have someone ever told you that they do not wish to tell you certain things, as it would be unfair for you to know the truth? Have you ever discover certain secrets then hoping you didn’t know about it? Oscar Awards to be presented to those who can pretend as if nothing ever happened should they choose not to be a politician.

P.S. Those who can pretend they didn’t owe me $ or meals (e.g. due to loss in bets involving 7 wonder of the world) should be presented with Oscar Awards too.

The Dreams

Does dreams really reflect one’s subconscious mind? I have persistently dream of three childhood friends whom I have lost in touch over the past 15 years. As I progressively hunt them down one by one, they also vanish in my dreams one after another. Decades of rummaging around were finally completed over the weekend thanks to three geniuses from Harvard who created Facebook. It’s finally time to reveal some secrets that were hidden for more than 20 years. :)

P.S. If you wish to tell me something, or if you owe me $ or meal (due to loss in bets involving 7 wonder of the world), don't wait for 20 years. It may haunt you in your dreams.

Gifts

Have you ever felt irritated because you are obligated to buy gifts amid some stupid anniversary or celebration arranged by someone who are trying to make a fortune out of it? Buying a present should brought as much joyfulness to the person who is buying it as to the person who shall receive it. As such, why do you need a reason to buy someone a gift as long as it makes us feel good? Agree? Great. Since we have a common understanding, please do not hesitate to buy me gifts anytime. :)

Change of Chinese Name

Hello everybody, I have changed my Chinese Name to 许虔珲 as of May 27th, 2008. Many think I am insane, particularly my mates from Down Under. Nonetheless, if you don’t like my new name, you can always call me Dai Go Dai Dai Dai, or Leng Zai Leng Leng Leng. I accept both. :)
